How to Cooking Rice and make Pulao using (Absorption method)


    1. 1 ½ Cups (Aged) Basmati Rice (Available at your local Indian Grocers)
    2. 2 1/2 Tablespoon (Tbsp) EVOO
    3. 2 Teaspoon (Tsp) Cumin Seeds
    4. 2 ¾ Cups of Water
    5. Salt (As per taste)
    6. ¼ Cup Frozen Peas


      1. Wash the rice (Gently) a few times until the water runs clear
      2. In a Cooking Pot (On Medium Heat), heat 1 ½ Tbsp of Oil and toast 1 Tsp of Cumin in it
      3. Add washed rice and stir for a while and add water and season
      4. Once boiling and as the water seems to start absorbing, reduce the heat and fluff the rice with a fork.
      5. Cover the pot with a kitchen towel and cover with a lid. Cook for another 5-10 mins. Take off the Heat and Keep Aside
      6. Tempering-
        1. Toast 1 Tsp of cumin in a small pan
        2. Add 1 Tbsp Oil and stir
        3. Add the peas and cook for 2-3 mins
        4. Pour this hot Temper on the rice
      7. Mix and Fluff the rice and temper using a fork and allow to cool slightly before serving
      8. 3-4 Serves
